Just what happens when you pit two of the biggest sports stars in history against one another in a boxing ring? Surprisingly enough, the answer isn’t quite what you might think. In the video above, the latest viral video from the ‘net shows how the internet reacted to a bizarre sports take against the backdrop of the NFL’s Week 17 showdown between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants.
A few weeks ago, I was watching a documentary on the Mike Tyson vs. Evander Holyfield fight from 1997, and this is what I saw:
Recently, LeBron James was quoted as saying, “Mike Tyson is the only person who can beat me,” in response to a question about who would win in a boxing match between James and Tyson. For the sake of discussion, we’ll assume that James is right, and Tyson is the only person who could beat him, and that James could beat anyone in any sport. How would this stand up to the test of time?. Read more about mike tyson next fight and let us know what you think.
Is This The Worst Sports Take Ever? LeBron James vs. Mike Tyson: Is This The Worst Sports Take Ever?
DunkTopic received a hit tweet if they wanted one.
The query asked by the Twitter account was, “Who do you have?” includes a photo of LeBron James in his peak fighting “Iron” Mike Tyson in a boxing bout.
Who do you have: LeBron James, who has had two years of training, or Mike Tyson, who is in his prime? pic.twitter.com/bQRsH2Bs4H

With over 9000 quote tweets and over 5000 comments, it’s safe to conclude that the concept didn’t go down well.

Let’s start with the backdrop. According to his coach, Constantine “Cus” D’Amato, Tyson began boxing at the age of 13 and had “the most essential characteristics,” including “the will to win… the drive to win, and he wants to be the greatest.” These characteristics turned Tyson into a born murderer who conquered his sport to become the world’s youngest heavyweight champion. To achieve something that everyone believes is impossible, it requires pure willpower and dedication. “Illusion is only deluded when you don’t achieve the objective of making your delusion a reality,” Tyson remarked in a podcast with Joe Rogan.
Tyson’s peak mentality was one of discipline and desire to become the greatest fighter of all time. Before d’Amato died, a documentary on his life featured an interview with him. “Discipline allows a person to accomplish what has to be done,” D’Amato said in the interview. While James may be physically talented, it won’t help him in the ring against a psychologically tough opponent. That’s the problem with LeBron James in this fantasy match-up.
“The physical element of boxing is so minor,” D’Amato says, “that most people would never believe it or accept it.” Boxing is won and lost on the basis of mental toughness and training, according to D’Amato. “The mind and emotion make up approximately 75 percent of boxing,” he added. D’Amato also had Tyson read Alexander the Great’s biography so he could “understand how a guy from an empty area might become a global conqueror.” This is how you create an unstoppable champion.
Meanwhile, if LeBron James ever reads beyond the first few pages of a biography, this is the knowledge he learns.

LeBron James was a standout high school athlete who was selected first overall in the NBA draft in 2003. Since then, he has created formidable teams to contend with and has won four NBA championships.
Tyson has never had the luxury of having a bunch of guys to pick him up when he’s having a poor game. In the ring, the only person he could count on was himself and his drive to win.
In the Sports Wars video below, LeBron James also fails in the discipline area. With little than five minutes left in an NBA playoff game against Phoenix, James stepped off the floor with his Lakers down by double digits.
The second problem is what we’ve seen in the past when top athletes enter sports in which they have no business. Before entering the UFC octagon, CM Punk had been in professional wrestling for almost a decade. Prior to his UFC debut, Punk received some Jiu-Jitsu training and earned a blue belt. In the first round of the battle, though, he was easily defeated when Mickey Gall submitted him with a rear-naked choke. Conor McGregor, a two-division UFC champion who is also a highly talented mixed martial artist, lost to Floyd Mayweather, a 40-year-old boxer, in a boxing fight. LeBron James would be utterly crushed in a match-up with Mike Tyson in his prime, even with two years of good preparation. Even now, at the age of 55, I believe Tyson would give him a good fight.
A video of Tyson training at the age of 53 may be seen below.
