Varese Sarabande Records announced that they will release “The Matrix: The Complete Soundtrack” on compact disc on October 11. The release, which will feature both the original soundtrack and director’s cut music by Akira Yamaoka, will be available as a limited edition 2-CD set, a 2-CD edition and a 3-disc, 24-track edition for the fan that wants to hear everything. With the 25th anniversary of ‘The Matrix’ fast approaching, Varese Sarabande has announced a limited edition CD box set, which features both soundtracks to the movie, which has been described as the ” ultimate journey for any fan of the movie “. The release will also come with a bonus CD featuring “The Evolution of the Movement”, an 18 track CD sampler of the music from the original movie.

In March of 2002, the Wachowski brothers released the film “The Matrix” to both critical and box-office acclaim. The film, which was released on VHS and DVD, features the full, uncut version of the film, including all the alternate endings.

Varèse Sarabande Records is pleased to announce that one of its club CDs will be released in June 2021: The Matrix (complete edition) by Don Davis. This title has been in force since 11. June available exclusively on and on

Few blockbusters can claim to be as influential as Matrix (1999), written and directed by the Wachowskis. From the over-the-top concept rooted in the audience’s imagination (what if we all lived in a computer simulation?) to Keanu Reeves’ iconic character, Neo, to the brilliant, impressive, scripted visual effects, Matrix was presented in all its glory. Three films have grossed more than $1.6 billion worldwide, and a fourth is in the works.

Matrix called for a score as unique, complex and imaginative as its concept and plot, and composer Don Davis did just that. Davis, who composed the music for the Wachowskis’ Binding (1996), reinvented the blockbuster’s symphonic language by drawing on advanced concert minimalism and his own experience as an avant-garde composer, while still retaining the energy, pace and density required for a studio film.

Whether it’s rumbling brass, speeding strings, pounding percussion or repetitive musical cells, the Matrix’s score fits perfectly with the concept of the film’s computerized reality and offers a unique musical fingerprint, sometimes identifiable by a single note or chord. It is a rare commercial triumph that is also an artistic milestone.

The Wachowskis really wanted something new and different. Any director will tell you they want something new and different until they actually hear it. But I took it to heart, and it became clear that a unique approach to this film was really needed. I was involved in composing concert music from the beginning, so I was aware of what was happening in that field. We] were working in a style that some people called postmodern, which seemed appropriate for a postmodern film like Matrix. And I saw it as an opportunity to use a stylistic direction that wouldn’t have worked in other films, but would have in this particular film, says composer Don Davis.

The Matrix was issued by Varèse Sarabande when the film came out, and then in a deluxe edition that brought together as much of the score as possible on a single CD. By popular demand, this new two-CD set contains the complete score. This release is also available as part of Record Store Day 2021 in the form of a 3 LP box set to be released on the 17th. July comes. Go to to find a participating retailer. The album notes include a new interview with Don Davis by Kaya Savas.
