With the sudden and unexpected stardom of the recently released, critically acclaimed Guillermo del Toro-helmed film, “The Shape of Water”, it’s hard to imagine the film without the score that was composed by the renowned composer himself, Daniel Hart. Fortunately, you don’t have to imagine, since you have the chance to own a brand new, limited edition vinyl score of the main theme, “The Green Knight”, from a release date of February 1st, 2019.

It’s been a while since I last covered a soundtrack news story, but A24 has announced that they will be releasing a vinyl edition of the score to the upcoming film The Green Knight starring Tom Hardy.

For fans of the cult 1970s TV series, you need to have this soundtrack on vinyl. The legendary Alan Howard, composer of the score for the show, has a collection of scores available on vinyl for the first time, including the iconic theme song and the score to the pilot episode. The third pressing of this record is limited to 500 copies on 180g audiophile vinyl.. Read more about green knight and let us know what you think.

Following the digital release of composer and performer Daniel Hart’s THE GREEN KNIGHT (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) last month, the album’s vinyl version is now available for presale exclusively via the A24 store. The CD, which is available to listen and download digitally, includes Hart’s soundtrack music for filmmaker David Lowery’s newest fantasy adventure film, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, which is based on the famous Arthurian story of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The soundtrack is available as a 2-LP gatefold collection with liner notes from Hart and Lowery, newly produced on emerald-green marbled vinyl — preorder exclusively via the A24 store here. The Green Knight is now showing in cinemas and will be available on PVOD beginning Thursday, August 19 anywhere you rent movies.

Available everywhere now, Daniel Hart’s soundtrack to The Green Knight is both as epic and unique as the film itself, a sweepingly dramatic and expansive body of music that straddles the divide between medieval and modern. Hart’s work has already garnered acclaim from critics, with the Los Angeles Times writing, “These fateful encounters draw lyricism and gravity from the singsong interludes and delicately plucked strings of Daniel Hart’s enveloping, ever-present score,” and eventually determining the film to be a “ravishing triumph.” The soundtrack is the latest in a longstanding creative partnership between Lowery and Hart, the duo having worked together previously on Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Pete’s Dragon, A Ghost Story and The Old Man & the Gun.

Composer Daniel Hart had this to say about the soundtrack:

“Making this song felt like fleeing a gang of hyenas while wading through a river of chocolate mud at the same time. It has never taken David [Lowery] and me this long to discover what we were searching for musically on any of his films, so to be able to listen back again and really like what we created is all the more gratifying, particularly when I consider how many late hours and hair pullings went into it. I was wandering through the woods most of the time, much like Gawain, and finding little moments of good fortune here and there, often by obstinate dumb luck. I hope that listening to the music makes you think of anything other than me sitting in my studio, worrying constantly. But if you do, you have a very good imagination.”

The Green Knight is an epic fantasy adventure inspired on the classic Arthurian tale of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s wild and headstrong nephew, who sets out on a perilous journey to face the titular Green Knight, a giant emerald-skinned stranger and man-tester. In what becomes a deeper quest to define his character and establish his value in the eyes of his family and country by meeting the ultimate adversary, Gawain battles spirits, giants, thieves, and schemers. A new and bold take on a famous story from the knights of the round table from creative director David Lowery.
