But not all candy is good, and some definitely stand out from the rest. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the most coveted and dreamy candies that we hope people of all ages will find in their baskets on Easter Sunday. There are regional favorites like Krakow Butter Eggs and Philadelphia Citner Gold Cup on the West Coast and Tennessee’s Cluster Goo Goo, as well as delicious homemade Easter traditions, but we’ve narrowed down our list to some of the most popular national brands.
There is, of course, what I would call the second category of Easter candy. It involves treats like butterfly eggs or crispy eggs, swallow eggs, pastel-colored M&Ms, spicy jelly beans, and Peeps (not in the highest category because of the ambivalence of people loving or hating these colorful marshmallow chicks) that we will probably eat at some point, but there are only a few types of candy that seem to embody what it is and why we love Easter candy so much! Are you concerned about the healthiest sweets? Find them here. Everyone’s tastes are different, but there are five candies that can be found in almost every Easter basket.
Top 5 (in no particular order):
Strange; even if you’re not a big fan of jellybeans the rest of the year, there’s something about Easter that makes almost everyone reach for a handful of jellybeans. It’s not chocolate, but it’s also one of the reasons to love it when we’re inundated with every kind of chocolate under the sun at this time of year. Although star candy has gained popularity in recent years, there are many brands that keep the love of jelly beans alive, even if it’s just a few days a year.
By their shape and texture, you’d expect them to be nothing more than slippery M&Ms just by looking at them, but when you pop one in your mouth, it’s a refreshing change of pace (no offense to M&Ms). It has malted milk in it, which may sound weird, but we assure you it’s delicious! With sprinkles, chocolate icing and a beautiful center, they can be a make or break basket. It’s fun to get big candy and crack eggs for Easter, but those little Robin eggs are just as important to complete that basket.
Easter treats are not complete without a good dose of chocolate. If you’re a chocolate lover, we wouldn’t be surprised if this title was your first treat on Easter morning. Whether it’s a delicious chocolate bunny, filled with more chocolate or caramel in the middle, or if the middle is left hollow, it’s sure to result in a chocolate fix and put a smile on your face.
Sure, it’s a challenge to eat an entire chocolate bunny, but we’ve heard the rumor that calories don’t count on Easter….. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but you only live once, so at least eat your chocolate ear!
The Cadbury Creme Egg
You’ve probably seen advertisements for it this year, but the Cadbury egg has been a staple of Easter treats for years. The Cadbury Creme Egg seems to be a favorite, with its delicious chocolate frosting and delicious vanilla cream inside that mimics the yolk of a real egg. But Cadbury’s chocolate eggs and mini eggs can hold their own with the rest of the candy shelf at Easter.
Chances are, if you ask someone close to you what their favourite Easter candy is, Cadbury will be blown away, as they sell over 300 million of them a year!
Reese’s Peanut Eggs
We already said that Butterfly and Nest crispy eggs are second-rate Easter candy, so why is Reese’s in the top tier? First of all, people not only salivate when they hear about this Easter candy, but they almost always start talking about it immediately. Seriously, we’re not trading any other candy for these eggs.
While a Reese’s Cup is delicious any time of year, there’s nothing more exciting than walking into a store and seeing a beautiful display of Reese’s eggs finally in stock so we can all share in the glory of the most perfect chocolate-nut ratio ever.
There are so many types of candy around this holiday that it would be almost impossible to list them all. What candy do you cut for your perfect Easter basket? Did we miss anything?
